Performance

Preservation Windows are built
to withstand the test of time and Mother Nature

While a window's beauty can never be expressed in numbers . . . its performance can.

Preservation Windows are certified subjecting them to the battery of ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) tests for air infiltration, water infiltration, and structural performance.  These tests are part of the accepted industry standard for windows. (ANSI/AAMA/NWDA 101 I.S. 2-97)

Today's windows can solve problems and improve the comfort in your home in ways that were just imagined ten or fifteen years ago. Is your home too hot in the summer or too cold in winter? Today's windows can change that. Are you concerned about seeing your valuable investment in home furnishings destroyed by fading? Today's windows can help. Are you bothered by noisy intrusions from the world around you? Today's windows can drive out the noise. As glass is the largest component of a window, making the right choice about glazing will go a long way toward giving you the results you want from your window investment. We appreciate that you are considering Preservation Windows featuring Heat Mirror glass to help you protect and enhance your home's environment and value.

Click on one of the topics below to review information covering the important areas of window performance, providing comparative performance and selection criteria for the following critical areas of performance:

Noise Control
In today's increasingly urban environment noise is an almost constant factor. The problem has grown to the point that major noise abatement projects are becoming more and more common along freeways and near railroads and airports. Just as heat and light can be transmitted through windows, noise often finds its way into a home through the windows. Window Man Windows will reduce noise intrusion through windows, and help make a home the refuge we all want it to be.

Condensation Resistance
If you are concerned about condensation on windows, choose windows with the two features that reduce window condensation: improved insulation and thermally improved spacers. As a window's U-value improves, the inner glass temperature is warmed, making it more resistant to condensation. While this may not eliminate condensation, windows with lower U-values give you the best protection against the problem.

Solar Tuning with Multiple Glazings
Many sophisticated home builders and design professionals are realizing that homes in different geographic locations have differing environmental concerns. For instance, windows in northern climates have less heat gain concerns. More and more people are selecting glass options to meet unique needs of their home. One type of glass is used to solve the exposure challenges of a home in the north and a different glass for the south, east, and west. This process, called "solar tuning," maximizes the performance of your home and enables you to take full advantage of the energy efficiencies available with today's glazing technologies.

Air Infiltration  Pass
Preservation Windows are tested for air infiltration using the industry's rigorous air infiltration resistance testing procedure.  Test ASTM E283.
Water Resistance  DP70
Preservation Windows are subjected to a driving water spray of five gallons per hour/per square foot (equals rainfall of eight inches per hour) at a simulated wind speed of over 60 mph.  Test ASTM E547
Structural Load   DP65
Preservation Windows are subjected to interior (negative) and exterior (positive) structural load conditions simulating a wind speed of over 190 mph (the highest ranking on the Hurricane Damage Potential Scale is a Category 5, which is reserved for those hurricanes which exceed 155 mps wind speeds).  Test ASTM E330
